It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to pursue your studies with North East India’s First and Only Open University, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University.
The very purpose of the University is to promote education to reach the unreached through the Open and Distance Learning System and the motto is ‘Education Beyond Barriers’ of age, academic background and geographical boundaries.
KKHSOU, established under the provision of the KKHSOU, Act’ 2005 enacted by the Govt. of Assam & published in the Assam Gazette (extraordinary) dt 29/9/05 has been recognized by the Distance Education Council (now Distance Education Bureau, UGC), New Delhi vide letter no. DEC/Misc/07/5957 dated 03/10/07. The University Grants Commission vide its letter No. F.9-13/2008(CPP-I) dated 18th March, 2009 also has empowered the University to award degrees under Section 22 of UGC Act, 1956. It is the fourteenth of its kind along with IGNOU and the only state Open University in the whole of NE India. The headquarters of the University is located at Patgaon, Rani, Guwahati-781017.
Extending the benefit of higher education to everyone equitably and effectively is in the mandate of KKHSOU. The University is conscious of the national and regional need to extend the benefit of higher education to the large number of students who are not in a position to enroll in the higher education institutes of the state and the country for their education through the direct mode. For this large number of potential students, education provided through this medium is a powerful tool for their career progression and for enhancing their employment opportunities.
The advent of massive digitization in education and incredible global connectivity is slowly changing the concept of traditional universities. KKHSOU too would need to change fast in keeping with the times to keep up with the global progress. The objective is to blend the advantages of technology and time-tested pedagogy to ensure that the student receives a near-classroom experience.
I am happy to welcome you to this ‘Next-Generation’ learning methodology, which I firmly believe will be the harbinger of change and prosperity to our students.
Wishing you all the best!
